Hi, Samita!
My family came to Canada, from Bombay, when I was only 12 years old, & we settled in Montreal. At that time,
in the mid-1960s there were no Indian stores in Montreal where one could buy Indian food ingredients, so we began
to eat mostly Canadian style food. I married a wonderful white, Canadian man, whom I met in university, & we
are still very happily married after some 30 years. But sadly, I never got to learn to cook Indian food dishes
as I learned mostly my husband’s family’s European-German & Canadian recipes from my husband’s mother. So now,
that I am 50 years old, I have decided to explore my Indian Heritage Food recipes, & my dear best friend also
from my university days, Alaka Pande McConnell (who is also married to a wonderful, white, gorgeous American Medical
Doctor) has put me in touch with your website. I was speechless at the list of traditional food names I haven’t
heard in decades. My parents divorced some 4 years after we came to Canada, & I lost touch with my family which
also made me lose touch with my cultural roots. But when I saw the list of Maharashtrian food names on your website,
I felt like I was a young girl again, as it brought back memories of our wonderful life in Bombay. For a few years
now, I have been looking for Maharashtrians here in Canada, but there don’t seem to be many. Most of the East Indians
here in Canada are Punjabi Sikhs & Punjabi Hindus, & even though I sometimes buy their sweets & samosas,
these foods just don’t taste like my Maharashtrian foods that I miss.
You have done a wonderful thing in this world by bringing our Maharashtrian food recipes so easily through the
Internet to all of us who are scattered all over this planet. God Bless you, Samita! And THANK YOU!
Fondly,
Medini Jacobson.
(P.S.: In one of your recipes for Daal, there is a measure you call ‘Khaturi’ … what is or how much is a ‘Khaturi’?)
Thanks. Bye for now. M.)
Dear Samita,
I was browsing when I came across this site. It is was a pleasant surprise. Just marvelous. Was waiting for a site
like this one ( a total marathmoli site) for a long time. By developing this site you have brought Maharashtrian
food culture to the forefront.
I am sure this site will be very helpful for all maharashtrian young, married & professional women and also
all those young women software engineers & housewife's settled abroad.
Many congrats and best wishes for the future.
Best Regards,
Radhika Hasabnis
PS: Was really tired of all those North Indian , South Indian & Tarla
Dalal & Sanjeev Kapoor web sites.

This is very nice that even we are not there in India we can
learn from net how to cook. For this I find your site very useful. I married last year, and came immediately to
Bahrain. So I never got time to learn more. As all of know that girls are not finding interest in cooking before
marriage normally. But after marriage they come to known that it is must. Not only that when we cook and husband
appreciate it. That happy moment we can’t compare with anything, and for giving that happiness to my family and
me. Your si
te is really helpful.Keep it up.
Thank you.
